Google Shuts Down More Products
Google is shutting down some of its lesser-known services like Jaiku, Dodgeball, Mashup Editor, Google Video Upload, Google Notebook, Catalog Search — after shutting down Lively. It’s interesting to me that Google doesn’t release some of these as open-source projects and put them on minimal life-support. Some of these service, tho, are understandably just duplicate services that should be consolidated — ex: Google Video Upload -> YouTube; Google Notebook —> Google Docs/Search Wiki. But Lively could have been made open source like Jaiku, right? And I wonder if Dodgeball could be opened up, too. Anyway.. these announcements make me worry about GrandCentral. I have to wonder what Google’s plans are for GrandCentral since it hasn’t released any recent updates and is still in private beta lockdown. Next on the chopping block: Knol and Zingku, too?
